Emergency water extraction is the first hour of the job and the hour that decides the rest of it. Truck-mounted units pull free water off the floor, then we deal with what soaked in: the carpet pad, the tack strip, the gap under the baseboard where water parks and stays. Whether the source was a burst supply line, a slab leak under the tile or a water heater in the garage, the first hour looks the same.
In a slab home the water travels. It runs under the tile grout line, along the sub-floor and up the drywall until it finds a stud to sit against. That is why we meter the rooms next door before we leave. A room that looks untouched often reads wet at the base of the wall, and that room is where the mold shows up in three weeks if nobody checked it.
Extraction and structural drying are usually one visit and one crew, and the extraction feeds the drying plan directly. Carpet that came through clean water gets cleaned rather than replaced at the end of the job.
